Wow, it’s been a long, hot summer already. The thermometer has been rising since the spring, and if you live in the mid-Atlantic like I (and the humidity) do, you may not remember spring’s short stint.
How can a person get some real, quality sleep when it’s been so uncomfortably hot? Well, I can answer that. I can remember back to my childhood and having problems sleeping when it was hot and uncomfortable, and thinking throughout the years I’m going to master going to sleep – even when it’s hot as the sun. So, here’s my recipe for getting your sleep on –
First, I start with a hot shower every night. I find that it’s good for my body and mind to wash off the day’s sweat and stress, and to begin the wind down process.
Next, my room has to have the following elements in it;
- a lighter color and lighter weight blanket on the bed (save the darker colors for the colder months)
- a tower fan (these seem to cool better than the old fashioned box fans)
- a lavender candle nearby – unlit – (lavender is so good for de-stressing and winding down. My friends at Parachute, a bedding company, have excellent candles & blankets.)
Home is where the heart is, and therefore, the heart should be able to get comfortable and go to sleep. Even in the hottest weather.
Good night. 🙂
