Well, we’ve made it past Thanksgiving 2012 – and I hope you enjoyed it thoroughly! Before the clock struck 12am on “Black Friday”, many retail stores had already opened up — on Thanksgiving Day! Trying to snag the customer’s dollars and get a jump start on improving their yearly sales before your turkey dinner had time to digest.
I’m all for presents, family and fun – all for it. However, in this very secular and consumer driven world that we live in, we tend to get further and further away from the real reason of the Christmas holiday. So many people would rather use “Xmas” and “holiday” – all in place of of the word Christmas. Why? Wouldn’t it seem to be a little more logical to say Cmas, if you just have to shortcut the word Christmas instead of completely eliminating Christ by trying to X Him out??
I must tell you, that God being made into flesh and dwelling among men in the form of Jesus Christ is what Christmas is all about. John 3:16 tells us that, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believes in Him will be saved.” The birth of Jesus was God’s biggest and BEST gift that He could ever give to mankind – and as a Christian, I’m offended when society tries to make light of those facts.
One of my most favorite passages of Scripture comes from the prophet Isaiah in the Old Testament of the Bible. Isaiah, being inspired by the Holy Spirit, looked through the portals of time and prophesied approximately 700 years before Christ was born —
Oh yes! And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Someone so magnificent should NEVER be overlooked!
Merry CHRISTtmas to you, in advance!
