As many of you know, I had attended the BlogHer13 conference a few weeks ago in Chicago. Right before leaving for the conference, I had my hair stylist do my hair in a style that required very little heat – almost air dry. The hazy summer days filled with humidity and rain in Washington, DC and my thick, natural hair came together in a not-so nice way. What to do now? I’m hundreds of miles away from my stylist and my hair is needing some help.
Well, thank goodness that my friends from Kiss Products were at the expo hall for the BlogHer conference! And Twyla did a great job straightening my hair with their flat iron and root straightener. I love the job that she did, in record time! So much so, that I wanted to give my readers a chance to win one of their hair appliances that helped me get back to my normal (fabulous) self. 😉
Check out my before and after pics!
So, here’s what I have for two lucky winners (who will receive one of the items below) – courtesy of Kiss Products!
1 – Kiss Silicone Styler – Counteract frizz and seal in moisture with our 1-inch flat iron with Ceramic Tourmaline and Silicone Technology. Two conditioning silicone bars are embedded on both ceramic plates to minimize heat damage by cushioning hair and sealing the hair cuticle to retain moisture.
1 – innovative Kiss Ceramic 1/2 Inch Root Straightener is designed with a heat resistant comb to protect the scalp from burns and allow for straightening directly at the root making it a safer alternative to style, straighten, and lift hair close to the hairline.
HOW TO ENTER TO WIN –
-
Tell me about one of your wackiest bad-hair days and how you needed help getting out of a jam (by leaving a comment). In this case, the “badder” the better.
- Two winners will be selected at 10PM EST on Friday, August 30th, 2013 – so enter your comments before the deadline.
Good luck!

I flew into Florida last year for a women’s conference, and having naturally curly hair, I hugely underestimated the humidity, and within 2 hours, my hair was 5x the size it should have been and it all started at the roots. We had conference starting in 2 hours, and I was freaking out. Until I learned my lovely hostess was from the Dominican Republic and knew how to work with my hair texture. She quickly ran home, grabbed the hottest blow dryer ever and blew those roots back straight, and she hooked me up. So thankful for my Dominican sister in Christ for hooking me up so that I didn’t look like a hot mess at the conference.
The roots need some help beyond measure over here! 🙂

My freshman year of high school I had a swimming meet the same day as my school’s sadie dance. I didn’t have a date to Homecoming so this was going to be my first date/ dance with a boy EVER! I remember I coming home from the swim meet with my hair reeking of chlorine. I washed my hair right when I got home! My straightener was a really old Revlon straightener. After blow-drying my hair, the straightener was no match for my frizzy mess! (In fact my older cousin Michael used to call me Hermione after seeing the first Harry Potter movie with him because of the color, thickness, and frizziness Emma’s hair had in the first movie… her hair in the movie was identical to my daily hair) So imagine young Hermione’s hair only blown out even bigger from the hair dryer and about 5 inches longer… that is the way my hair was! I gave up on the straightener when I was running out of time and had my mom brush out my knotty, wavy, curly mess of a head. She then put my hair in curlers which took away some of the volume and made it appear less frizzy. Call it what you will (my crazy hair, lack of self confidence, my geeky high-school self, etc.) but my date didn’t even finish slow dancing one song before he asked if he could dance with another girl. About seven years down the road I still have the same straightener… needless to say I only attempt straightening my hair about once a year. If I do I usually wait until I’m home from college and beg my sister to borrow her’s instead of fuss with mine. I almost caved and bought a CHI, but couldn’t reason spending the money on it. In fact, I almost bought a straightener on many different occasions but never had the extra money.

I think my worst hair day was the day Aliyah was born. Why was it bad you ask? Because in preparation for getting it braided, which was scheduled for the same day Aliyah made her grand entrance (2 weeks early), I had washed my thick, natural tresses and just put in these jumbo, Ms. Ceelie style, braids. They were going in every direction possible and I just threw a scarf on and went to bed. A few hours later, I went into labor. After delivering my precious bundle via emergency c-section, I remembered the state of my hair and immediately sent a text to my cousin begging her to at least come to the hospital and put some sensible looking cornrows in it so I didn’t frighten the nurses (or Aliyah) too much. She arrived later that afternoon (after I was settled in my hospital room) and hooked me up and I was forever grateful!

I have superrr curly hair! :)) Worst hair DAYS in elementary.. I had two Mickey Mouse ears ponytails at the top of head that looked like rolled up pieces of unever turds! IT’S IN THE YEARBOOK FOREVER, and my mom had the nerve to purchase the yearbook!
2nd: In about 5th or 6th grade My mother had just washed blow dried and flat ironed my hair(i thought I was Cute) well I went to a sleep over on that Friday but they didn’t inform me that we were goin to be in the steaming hot jacuzzi. As a African American girl, you learn from an early age to not get your hair wet without your moms permission. Well since it was 1st time in a jacuzzi and I thought since we technically weren’t swimming that I would get in and make sure my hair did NOT touch the water. Everything was perfect until someone told me my hair looked crazy so I quickly got out went to the bathroom and seen my frizzy afro take up the entire mirror.
3rd: My junior year of highschool, I got my 1st perm(I’m now perm free, 100% back to my curls). And I didn’t want to straighten it, because I thought it was SO cute wavy.. Well little did I know it was going to rain while I was in class i had no jacket. Knowing that I didn’t flat iron it, I thought my hair would be fine just a little wet, I was wrong. That humidity tore my hair up SO bad, I had another Afro! :((
Thank you SO much for the Giveaway.! :))
