Acts 4:10, “Let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. 11 This is the ‘Stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the Chief Cornerstone.’ 12 Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”
In a previous devotion, we determined that a name reveals the identity, nature, character and essence of a person, place or thing. I recently read a devotion by a well known pastor who said that we should base our prayer request on God’s character. He went on to say that we should pray like we KNOW God will answer us, by saying something like, “I’m expecting You to answer this prayer because of who You are.”
Jesus said in John 14:13, “And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14, If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.”
In JESUS’ NAME! Jesus said to pray in His name, and the well known pastor suggested that we should base our prayer request on His character. So, what is His character? Well, it’s wrapped up in His name!
When Isaiah prophesied about Jesus’ birth he said, “And His NAME shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6.
