We’re almost there – Christmas 2010! I realize there are many people who haven’t finished any Christmas shopping that they’re planning on doing, and some who may actually do their shopping after Christmas. Keeping a budget in mind, here are some of my favorite things that I think most people would also enjoy;
MUSIC:
My absolute favorite Christmas CD is Bebe Winans My Christmas Prayer! I remember the first time that I heard it. I was in Starbucks waiting for my drink and all I could hear was Bebe’s soothing voice over the loud speaker singing, “Christ! Son of Mary, Christ! Born of David, Christ the Lord!” And I asked the cashier, “WHO is that singing?”, as I discreetly wiped my tears away. She so proudly said, “It’s Bebe Winans, and we’re carrying his CD this year.” Well, that was probably six or seven years ago, I’ve probably given at least 12 copies of this CD away as gifts, and each year I play it and enjoy it fully. Love it!
MOVIE:
My favorite Christmas movie has become The Nativity Story. I love this movie! It sticks so closely to the Scriptures, unlike many other movies. I start reaching for my Kleenex every time the scene of the wise men reaching the new baby (Christ) gets close. And I recently saw the movie on sale at my local Wegmans for a mere $5.99.
This one is a classic for all generations to enjoy for years and years to come!
MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS:
I love taking time out of my busy day and enjoying my favorite magazines. Throughout the years, my favorites have flipped back & forth, but the one that has emerged over the last year or so as my favorite is Real Simple. I love the simplicity, I love the ease, I love the fact that in includes home, fashion, recipes and more, I love the front cover of each new issue — I love it all!
Real Simple had recently had a buy 1 subscription, get 1 FREE special on their website – www.RealSimple.com. Check it out – you can get a subscription for yourself and a loved one.
GIFT CARDS:
To me, gift cards should be for experiences. They’re simple little gifts, that practically every store and business now has. I like to give movie ticket gift cards, hotel stays, gift cards to restaurants, etc. Again, when I give a loved one a gift card, I’d love for them to remember that, “Aleysha thought enough of me to give me this great experience.” It doesn’t need to be incredibly expensive either! Groupon (in the Washington, DC area) recently had an offer for an Executive Suite at the lovely Gaylord Conference & Resort at the National Harbor in MD! I bought that for my brother and his new wife. AND then they had a special for AMC Movie tickets for just $4 each! I bought 2 of those (that was the limit). 🙂
Just about any store or business can even customize a gift card for you — so again, you don’t need to break the bank here!
So there you have it, some of my favorite things (and favorite things to give away). These are all classics and can be enjoyed by everyone — while staying out of debt!
MERRY CHRISTMAS to you, and remember the Reason for the Season!
“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”
Isaiah 9:6
