Perfecting My Craft … this Year

Last year I wrote a post called “Perfecting My Craft” and I talked about two blogging conferences that I would be attending in 2012.

This year, some of the conferences on my schedule are up in the air, except for two of them. One was the Writer’s Digest Self-Publishing Conference that I went to in New York City last month. And I just so happened to run into Ms. Sybrina Fulton (the mother of unarmed slain teenager, Trayvon Martin) in the hotel lobby. Well, I’m heading back to the Big Apple later this month to attend the Bookexpo America’s UpublishU Conference – and I’m so excited about it!

After writing and self-publishing four books now, soon to be five, the light bulb has finally come on for me and I realize that I need to be going to more conferences for people who write books. HELLO! And not just any ol’ writers conference will do. Since I’ve had the revelation that “I write books” a few months ago, I need to be going to the best writers conferences; and Writer’s Digest and Bookexpo America fit that description for me.

So, today I went to pick up my Amtrak tickets. I just love taking the train to New York City – so here are my tickets – along with some tickets to a Broadway show that I’m going to take in.  😉

Who said that perfecting your craft doesn’t have to be fun?

The Bible reminds us that whatever we’re called to do, we should do it with all of our might. I fully believe in iron sharpening iron and getting better and stronger in your gifts and talents, and staying up-to-date in your respective industries. What are you called to do? Consider putting a conference or two on your schedule and in your budget each year where you can learn new skills and find out about new resources that may be of help to you. You’ll be glad that you did.
